Why is the Kitchen Oven Still King?
In general the kitchen oven has been used since the time when man started cooking food with fire. It is said the concept of the kitchen oven came from Pit baking where the raw meat was wrapped in leaves and placed inside a pit and then fire was put on top of it, and then the meat cooked slowly. Eventually the concept of an oven came when it was discovered that confining something in a restricted place increases the pressure and the heat. Since then not only has every home sported a kitchen oven, ovens have been used widely for pottery drying, brick drying, roasting etc.
Kitchen Oven Invention
The Kitchen Oven was invented primarily for help with bread making and since then the oven has been developed to be used in a variety of task related to cooking. A modern kitchen oven may use charcoal, coal wood, gas or electricity as the primary source of power. Typically a modern home kitchen oven is primarily driven by gas or electricity. Many a kitchen oven\s nowadays is actually built in with a stove or burner on top of the oven housing itself for conserving space and fuel.
Kitchen Oven Heating System
A typical kitchen oven heating system can vary widely depending upon the size and the purpose of the oven. Generally an oven is always heated from below because it is useful for baking, roasting and heating cold food. An Oven can also have a heating system which comes down from the top, here the oven acts like a grill and due to this overhead heating process it is termed as Broiling. Many ovens also allow the option for Rotisserie and even convection heating where small fans drive hot air all around the chamber in a systematic way which heats the food uniformly from all the directions.
Kitchen Oven Advances Over Time
Advances such as self timer and temperature control allow the users to use the kitchen oven more efficiently saving more energy than traditional ovens, and obviously no one will like an overcooked or undercooked meal. Some kitchen oven manufacturers have also gone to the extent of controlling the temperature, pressure and time presets with digital mini computers, further enhancing the efficiency and productivity of the ovens.
Modern day production ovens are now built with chemically active surfaces with added catalysts which help in cleaning the system. Advances in technology have also enabled manufacturers to create self cleaning ovens which use extremely high heat to oxidize the dirt and grime. This process is called Paralytic Decomposition. Also Steam Ovens use wet-soak cycle to clean the dirt off the grills.
In short a kitchen oven is a very handy appliance which is a must have kitchen appliance for every home.
